WHY are ogres like onions?

Do they make you cry? Do you pick them out of salads? If you leave them out in the sun too long do they go all brown and start sprouting little white hairs (thanks, Donkey)?

Ogres are like onions because they have many layers. If you don't know what I'm talking about, my advice is to shut off the computer, run to the video store and rent Shrek right this minute. When you're finished you can continue with my blog. :-)

So why am I quoting Shrek? I think everyone is like an ogre- I know what you're thinking.... I'm not calling you big, green and scary, I promise. Although, I can think of at least one person who fits that description.... Seriously, I think we all have layers. And depending on the circumstance we let different layers show on the surface. My friends see a different layer of me than my students, or my family, or my co-workers. Yet each layer is a part of me, and I wouldn't be a complete onion with one missing. (yes, now I know I'm taking this metaphor a little too far) My point is, one thing that is so attractive to me about blogging is that I can let whatever layer I feel like at the moment show- and anyone of those people can see it. As an onion, I can either be "sharp, spicy, tangy and pungent" or "mild and sweet" (thanks Wikipedia). The idea is extremely liberating!

Cool new blog!
I think I'll be watching Shrek the Third tonight. (though I'm sure it can't be as beautifully layered as the first)
